Line-scan label inspection on a paint can line
A station on a paint can line that images each can through 360° and rejects wrinkled, misprinted or wrong labels.
The hard part
A 360° image of each can synced to the encoder. On site, the PLC ACK handshake was replaced with encoder pulse counting.
What I built
Servo turntable mechanics, a Basler line-scan camera with encoder-triggered capture, OpenCV checks, Mitsubishi MC protocol and Siemens S7 links, and a PySide6 HMI on a Linux kiosk.
Result
Checks wrinkles, print defects and label type across 8 label types.
