Chain scanner for small-pipe ultrasonic testing
A redesigned chain scanner for ultrasonic testing of pipes OD 21.3–60.3 mm, with less joint play and an encoder module.
The hard part
The original scanner had too much play in its joints for accurate scans on small pipes.
What I built
Redesigned joints (pin pitch from 6 to 21 mm, leaf-spring latch), an encoder module, and shop drawings for two machining batches.
